St Lucia, Saturday January 9 1999, 3.35am

Two witnesses observed a spherical ball of fire in a clear sky. It rose from near ground level at a sharp angle of climb to what seemed to be a height of 2000 feet and became stationary. After a time it continued climbing but in a different direction. One of the witnesses had been a pilot for 10 years. It seemed close enough so that engine noises would have been heard, but there were none. Its apparent size was like that of a small coin at arm’s length.
