Booval, Sunday July 23 2000, 7.42pm

A witness observed an orange/yellow oval shaped object moving slowly across the sky without making any noise at 800-1000 feet. The object did a 90 degree turn and “took off”. The duration of the sighting was about 10 minutes. The above report was published in the Hervey Bay Chronicle. A witnesses’ version of this incident is: “I looked up above the house and saw something the size of a light aircraft. It was a yellow/orange/red colour with flames around it and bright enough to make me squint. I thought it was the after burner of an F111. At the same time I noticed that there were no sounds, no insect noises, you could hear a pin drop. This lasted for 5 to 10 minutes. I ran to get the video camera and recorded as the object made a very fast 90 degree turn. It shot out 100 yards and then returned to its original course and eventually disappeared. When it disappeared I could hear the crickets again. I watched it for about 10 minutes. It was a still night and there was no smell of fuel. I live on acreage, and there are no city lights. Visitors there at the time did not want anything to do with it, and they left quickly. I was in the army and I have seen flares and mortars. I have also lived next to an airfield, and I have seen weather balloons. This was nothing like them. When I viewed the video, I slowed down the tape and I could see something solid.”
